[[I am the product of the brilliant teachings and generosity of many artistic mentors. Mentors in music, theatre, production, and writing. I think that I finally landed on Playwrighting because it was the one artform that rolled everything I had ever learned about art, into one discipline. It was also an artform that I could wield, while holding a full-time job, raising two boys and being a loving partner. I love live theater. I love that, in the darkness, we agree to focus together on something outside ourselves; that our shields lower, our unconscious comes out to play. In that space, I get to share with you something I’ve been thinking about, something I hope will resonate with you, or make you laugh, and perhaps, days later, give you pause. I believe that it is the playwright’s job, to challenge the actor, ignite the director and creative designers, and use the dynamic writing tools of structure, character, and action, to compel an audience to follow us, into that darkness, on an unexpected and compelling journey. Laughter is also encouraged.
My play “Wednesday in the Park with Blake” was recently produced in New York by the New Ambassadors Theatre Company, and my play “Bounce” was a semi-finalist at The National Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. My screenplay “Clipless” was a Sundance semi-finalist, and my screenplay “Sin City” written with Sarah Schenck, was both a Chesterfield and Sundance semi-finalist. As a producer, I worked on the feature film Slippery Slope which was a Montreal Film Festival official selection. I have performed with The National Shakespeare Company, The Negro Ensemble Company, The Amistad World Theater, The Chicago Symphony, and The Lyric Opera of Chicago.]]
